What do young people need from schools right now? How can educators create learning experiences that help students understand their world, find their place within it, and believe in their ability to shape what comes next?

These questions will be at the center of Learning for Change, a conference hosted by Touchstone Community School in Grafton, Massachusetts, this November. The event will bring together educators, school leaders, researchers, artists, and changemakers for a day of conversation, reflection, hands-on learning, and connection centered on progressive education and its relevance to the challenges facing schools and young people today.

“Educators don’t often get enough time to step outside the demands of the day and really talk with one another about why we do this work and what we want education to be. Learning for Change is about bringing together people with different experiences and perspectives to share what they’re learning, connect with one another, and leave with new ideas and new excitement for the work we do.”

Throughout the conference, participants will explore approaches to teaching and learning that foster curiosity, agency, belonging, critical thinking, creativity, and meaningful engagement with the world beyond the classroom. Workshops and interactive sessions will invite participants to examine both the ideas behind progressive education and what those ideas look like in practice.

The conference is designed for educators across a wide range of settings, including independent and public schools, early childhood through secondary education, community and arts organizations, and other programs serving children and young people. Participants are welcome to attend individually or as part of a school or organizational team.
