Vice Principal
Mount Alvernia Academy, Newton, MA
Mount Alvernia Academy, located in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, is seeking a full-time Vice Principal. Mount Alvernia Academy is a Catholic, Franciscan co-ed school educating children from Preschool through Grade 6.
Position Summary: The Vice Principal works collaboratively with the Principal to support the spiritual, instructional, and operational leadership of Mount Alvernia Academy. This role helps nurture a vibrant faith community rooted in Catholic values, ensures high-quality instruction, and supports the day-to-day functioning of the school, including the supervision of faculty and staff. An essential component of this position includes coordinating and supporting the secondary school admissions process for sixth-grade students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Principal in integrating Catholic identity, values, and teachings throughout school life including liturgies, fostering spiritual formation for students, faculty, and families.
- Assist in overseeing curriculum implementation and instructional practices, including Science of Reading approaches and integration of technology, and monitor student learning outcomes in alignment with rigorous academic standards.
- Conduct classroom observations, provide formative feedback, support professional development initiatives, and help build teacher capacity.
- Assist in the recruitment, supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff.
- Oversee the NEASC reaccreditation process.
- Lead and support the secondary school admissions process for sixth-grade students, including collaborating with families, preparing recommendation letters, and maintaining relationships with area private schools.
- Promote a positive, inclusive school culture that prioritizes student safety, well-being, and academic engagement for all learners, including multi-language learners and students with diverse needs.
- Maintain school safety and foster a positive, orderly learning environment by managing student discipline, attendance and behavior interventions.
- Assist with daily operations such as scheduling, compliance with school policies and regulations and overseeing the parent/student handbook.
- Build strong relationships with students, families and community stakeholders through consistent, transparent communication and partnership.
- Support the Principal in managing data, monitoring budget priorities, and advancing strategic initiatives in alignment with the school’s mission and goals.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in educational leadership, administration or a related field required; Massachusetts administrator license preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching elementary students, preferably in a Catholic school.
- Practicing Catholic, in good standing, committed to the teachings and values of the Catholic church.
- In addition, candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communications skills; have the ability to multitask; be able to coordinate projects and schedules in a fast-paced environment and be a positive team player with a desire to contribute and share their gifts and talents with the students and administration of the school.
- Must pass/complete a CORI check, fingerprinting, and complete the Archdiocese of Boston’s Protecting God’s Children training.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer.
- Ability to lift and manipulate up to 15 lbs. of supplies and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Salary: The expected annual salary for this position is $95,000 – $115,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This range is a good faith estimate and may be adjusted based on individual qualifications, skills, and experience.
