Job Summary:
The Upper School Theater Arts Teacher supports the fundamental educational mission of the school by stewarding the academic and socioemotional growth of a diverse group of students as a teacher and advisor. The Theater Arts Teacher develops and implements a robust and engaging theater program for students in Grades 5 through 8. This teacher also directs all Upper School theatrical productions, as well as the Grade 5 spring musical. A strong candidate will have experience working with middle school-aged children and have training in acting techniques, movement, and stage direction. The Upper School Theater Arts Teacher is a member of the Arts Department, which includes music, theater arts, visual arts, and innovation.

Key Objectives:
● Develop positive relationships with children.
● Plan, organize, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive Grades 5 through 8 Theater program in coordination with other faculty and in accordance with the Shore curriculum.
● Direct the Fall Play (non-musical), Mainstage Winter Musical, and 5th-grade Spring Musical.
● Advise
● Prepare students for smaller performances and assemblies throughout the year.
● Collaborate with colleagues and parents involved in theatrical productions.
● Advise parents on a variety of issues and questions.
● Develop daily lesson plans.
● Be cognizant of the developmental needs and various learning styles of children.
● Organize and maintain a healthy, safe, and multicultural learning environment using appropriate supplies and equipment.
● Maintain verbal and written communication with teachers and parents.
● Participate in pertinent department, division, and all-employee meetings.
● Perform necessary duties and implement schedules in cooperation with other faculty members.
● Plan for professional development, keeping abreast of current research and practices in Theater Education, child development, and equity and justice issues.
● Maintain necessary records.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
● Bachelor’s degree in theater education required; Masters preferred
● Experience with middle school children
● Ability to oversee, manage, and direct theatrical productions
● Comfortable and familiar with teaching Creative Movement and a variety of acting techniques, including pantomime, improvisation, vocal skills, and physical expressiveness
● Knowledge of relevant historical and cultural forms of theater
● Knowledge of current curricular and instructional practices
● Experience with diversity work; including equity and justice issues
● Knowledge of relevant technology applications
● Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
Salary Range: $60,000 – $100,000 – This salary represents the expected annual salary range for this position. Ultimately, your education level, experience, and other job-related factors will be considered to determine compensation.
