
Student Success Director
The Newman School, Boston, MA
The Newman School is seeking a Director for the Student Success Center. The Director reports directly to the Assistant Head of School and is the leader of an educational department. The director oversees the entire academic support structure for students with diagnosed learning and/or developmental challenges, communicates frequently with families, and works very closely with the Director of Counseling for students experiencing mental health challenges. The students in the Student Success Center receive 1:1 sessions, small group work, and general drop in support for the entire student body.
The successful candidate will be a passionate educator who is committed to the mission of Newman and displays a sensitivity to and understanding of students with diverse learning styles. The Director of the Student Success Center will foster a positive, structured, and caring environment, while also adhering to the goals of the International Baccalaureate – to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
● 5+ years experience working with students with varied learning needs
● 5+ years experience writing and communicating with families regarding student learning profiles and progress
● Ability to collaborate effectively with families, providing information about student performance with straightforwardness and empathy, as well as advise them on how best to support their child out of school.
● Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and advisors, serving as an advocate for students and making recommendations on how best to support the student in the classroom.
Responsibilities include:
● Developing Learning Plans and managing 1:1 support expectations.
● Oversee two learning specialists and work in daily collaboration with the Director of Counseling.
● Working closely with departments and offices to support students, including reviewing admission applications.
● Communicating with families and providing guidance for external support services.
● Overseeing testing accommodations, including IB exams.
● Collecting data, completing documentation, and attending meetings for student learning profiles.
● Partner with teachers to support effective classroom strategies and help coordinate assessment support as needed.
