Job Description

The Village School of North Bennington has an anticipated opening for a part-time (with the potential for full-time eventually) Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for the 2023/2024 school year. The SLP current caseload is equivalent to at least three (3) student days per week, and the service days will align with the annual school calendar. In addition, the SLP may be employed for professional development days as determined by the Head of School.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES:

  • Differentiate instruction for individual learners
  • Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and/or 504 plans and accommodations
  • Collect data to drive instruction and IEP planning
  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations for a variety of students in grades Pre-K through 6th
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate
  • Provide school-based services through small and large group instruction
  • Provide services within the classroom (for Preschool, Kindergarten, and First grade) in phonological awareness and language (vocabulary and grammar) for both special education and regular education students as a preventative and collaborative approach to working with identified and at-risk students
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement
  • Keeps a thorough ongoing record for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services
  • Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early development history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate
  • Participates in the Kindergarten screening process
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with each child that ensures the child knows they are cared for and valued
  • Establish a learning environment that is stimulating and challenging for each child, maintaining a classroom environment that promotes inquiry, creativity, divergent thinking, respect, intellectual ambition, and an enthusiasm for learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to ensure that each child’s experience at the school reflects a coordinated plan to maximize the opportunities for personal and educational growth
  • Develop and maintain positive partnerships with families as an important aspect of ensuring personal and educational growth
  • Commit to ongoing professional development, growth, and renewal continually learning and developing enhanced pedagogical skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Endorsement as an Educational SLP in Vermont, or an eligibility to obtain this credential
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have earned their Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • Experience in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education, strongly preferred
  • A working knowledge of IEP and 504 development and planning, including an understanding of accommodations
  • An understanding of standards-based instruction
  • Strong computer skills, required
  • Ability to use Google Suite, strongly preferred
  • Must be able to pass a series of state-required background checks, including fingerprinting
