The Fellowship: The Spanish Teaching Fellowship is a mentored position designed for individuals at the beginning of their teaching journey or those exploring a transition into education. This role blends hands-on classroom experience with guided mentorship, observation, and meaningful participation in the life of the school. The Fellow will work alongside experienced teachers to support and will have Spanish teaching responsibilities for students in upper elementary grades, while also engaging in other aspects of school life to build a deeper understanding of teaching and learning in a progressive school setting. This is a learning-centered role: the Fellow will receive regular feedback, mentorship, and opportunities to observe across grade levels and disciplines, gaining exposure to GUS’s interdisciplinary, culture-based approach to language learning.
Description

Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Supporting the mission, philosophy, and core values of the School
  • Focused Spanish instruction in upper elementary grades with support
  • Collaborating with mentor teachers and colleagues across disciplines
  • Participating in curriculum planning and gaining familiarity with the school’s curriculum mapping system
  • Engaging students through interactive, culturally rich language experiences
  • Participating in the broader life of the school, including meetings, events, and community activities
  • Contributing to the daily rhythms of school life, including student supervision, community responsibilities, and other duties typical of teaching faculty
  • Observing classes across grade levels and subject areas to deepen understanding of teaching practice
  • Reflecting on practice and incorporating feedback as part of professional growth

Compensation: This is a part-time fellowship position with a salary range of $25,000–$35,000, commensurate with experience and background. The role is designed as a mentored learning experience with meaningful responsibilities and professional growth opportunities. Additional compensation for vacation camps, tutoring, or other opportunities may be available.
