Pre-Kindergarten Co-Teacher

Brimmer and May School seeks a Pre-Kindergarten (PK) Co-Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. We are a caring community of learners committed to maintaining rigorous academic standards while implementing innovative educational ideas. The Pre-K Co-Teacher will work collaboratively with their teaching partner and the Head of Lower School, the Assistant Head of Lower School, and the Lower School Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Lower School Director of Academic Services to ensure a developmentally appropriate program for all students. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and demonstrates the ability to build relationships with children, co-teachers, families and the wider school community.
We seek an individual with a growth mindset who is proficient incorporating emerging technologies into their instruction, seeks to grow through professional development, has a willingness to support the mission of the school, provides student-centered learning opportunities, and has a collaborative spirit. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of 4 and  5-year-olds.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
-Responsible for teaching foundational literacy and numeracy, thematic, integrated units across all subject areas, including science and social studies, pre-reading/language arts, and early childhood-focused social-emotional learning
-Collaboratee with the Director of Counseling Services, Director of Health Services, and the Director of Learning Services
-Work collaboratively with the creative arts, physical education, library, technology, and world language teachers to ensure an integrated approach
-Meet with parents/guardians at the beginning of the year to set child specific goals, twice more during the year to discuss student progress, and as needed to discuss student progress and concerns
-Write regular communications to families including two brief progress reports and two full narrative reports on students during the course of the school year
-Serve on lunch duty/supervise recess

Reporting: This position reports to the Lower School Head

– Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
– Excellent knowledge of child development, latest education theories and practices, and current trends in education and professional development
– Experience with Wilson “Fundations” phonics program preferred
– Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and learning
