Middle School Spanish Teacher Leave Replacement
Friends Academy is a small, progressive EC-8 school of 240 students on the south coast of Massachusetts. We are known for having a strong sense of community that balances academics, arts, social and emotional learning, athletics, and outdoor activities.
We seek a Spanish Teacher to teach Spanish to students in grades 4-8 as an immediate hire for a leave replacement. The successful candidate will utilize differentiated techniques to foster language skills in students and be able to teach different levels of Spanish, ranging from beginners to students who have some proficiency in the language. The focus on the curriculum should include active learning through discussion, practice work, oral communication, and other hands-on learning activities.
We value teachers who believe in collaboration and understand the importance of relationship-building when helping students find success. At Friends Academy, we use Google and Blackbaud platforms, along with other assistive technologies, to meet our students’ varied needs.
The ideal candidate would:
- Have proficiency in spoken and written Spanish, with the ability to scaffold instruction for novice through intermediate learners.
- Have a passion for middle school and an understanding of the unique characteristics of middle school students
- Have previous experience working with children
- Serve as a role model for students and demonstrate a commitment to our school’s mission
- Promote responsible citizenship and respect for diversity and differences
- Design, implement, and creatively deliver curriculum
- Have a positive outlook on the world and opportunities for young people
- Differentiate lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners
- Desire to contribute to something larger than oneself and have a deep-seated belief in the power of teamwork
- Assess student learning with formative and quantitative assessment tools
- Communicate with families regularly, acting as a point of contact regarding a student’s academic, social, and emotional functioning
- Be dedicated to social-emotional learning and positive discipline practices
- Collaborate with grade teams and departments to create an integrated academic program for our students
- Maintain a sense of humor, positivity, and warmth.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Fluency in modern Spanish
- Commitment to a growth mindset and professional development
- Eligible to work in the U.S.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide specialized Spanish instruction for students.
- Develop proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.
- Report student learning through student portfolios, narrative report cards, and conferences
** Perform other assigned responsibilities such as supervision of students during non-instructional times, participation in community events, etc
