Middle School Math Teacher

Seeking a full-time, salaried position to teach 6th-8th grade Math. Reports to the Middle School Director.

What you’ll do:
  • Teach a combination of Math classes (4 classes total) Possible courses could include, 6th grade math, Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry
  • Serve as an advisor
  • Lead one afternoon program in the arts for one or more seasons or coach an afternoon sport.
  • Apply practices in classroom and other settings that foster equity, inclusion and belonging among Thayer Academy community members
  • Engage in ongoing professional development
What we’re looking for:
  • A bachelor’s degree required, Masters (or higher) preferred in Education, Math or related field
  • 3-5 years teaching experience at the Middle School level preferred
  • Passion for working with middle schoolers, and desire to build relationships
  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in the classroom, in curriculum, and in relationships with members of the school community
  • High level of comfort and experience with technology in an educational setting
  • Willingness to work on a team in a collaborative department
  • Ability to communicate and listen effectively with students and families

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Design Thinking or Project Based Learning curriculum development
  • Experience with Responsive Classrooms or other SEL curriculum and training
  • Experience with Pre-Algebra and Algebra teaching and/or tutoring
  • Willingness to incorporate metacognition into lessons
