Tenacre Country Day School Lower Grade Spanish Teacher

Part-time, 10-month position, exempt, salaried position

Tenacre Country Day School is seeking a part-time lower-grade Spanish teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. Tenacre’s mission is to nurture and challenge each child, every day. Position Summary:

At Tenacre, we want our students to experience Spanish instruction that develops early vocabulary, conversational fluency, and cultural awareness through age-appropriate engagement. Direct instruction and collaborative projects support the application of language skills and help students use Spanish to connect with a global community. In addition to teaching in the early grades, our Spanish teacher will work closely with a department co-teacher and a broad team of educators to ensure continuity and design a vibrant, integrated curriculum.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of and expertise in teaching Spanish at the early elementary level
  • Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary school level
  • Ability to develop and implement a diverse curriculum
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities:

Faculty are required to follow the protocols outlined in the annually revised Faculty and Staff Handbook. In addition, special subject teachers work in collaboration with a department co-teacher to:

  • Deliver age-appropriate Spanish instruction in the lower grades, including age-appropriate high-frequency vocabulary and beginning grammar
  • Provide students with authentic, interactive opportunities to communicate needs, idea and information in Spanish
  • Promote the social and emotional development of students through support and instruction
  • Engage in inclusive instruction that welcomes diverse identities, backgrounds, and learning styles.
  • Document and update curriculum annually in curriculum maps
  • Maintain regular communication with parents
  • Write narrative report cards and be available for parent/guardian conferences two times a year for each student
  • Participate in student focus, faculty, and committee meetings to ensure educational goals are being met
  • Participate in professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops for professional development
  • Order and manage supplies for classroom educational needs while staying within the classroom budget
  • Perform related duties such as recess and lunch table supervision, dismissal duty, assembly program, and assistance with or attendance at special events
  • When requested by the admissions department:
    • Attend admissions open houses and/or present at curriculum nights
    • Participate in group and/or individual candidate assessment days
    • Observe candidates, on- and off-campus
    • Review admissions folders, provide notes, and participate in admissions committee meetings

Minimum Qualifications and Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to work in a busy environment with many interruptions and moderate noise levels. The employee must be able to physically lower to a child’s level, ascend and descend stairs regularly, and move in and out of doors throughout the day following the school schedule. Additionally, the employee must be able to attend to students outside during recess periods on the playground; help students with basic needs such as tying their shoes, zipping their jackets, and managing materials.
