Learning Specialist

St. Michael’s Country Day School is an independent school in Newport, RI serving students in toddler (2 year olds) through grade eight. St. Michael’s Country Day School exists to develop courageous learners and caring citizens who are world ready.

We are actively seeking a compassionate and experienced Learning Specialist for potential openings for the 26-27 school year. Candidates must have a strong understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with diverse learning profiles, and a commitment to supporting their growth and success.

The Learning Specialist will work closely with students, classroom teachers, and the Learning Support Team to provide targeted academic support, both in and out of the classroom. This role includes implementing accommodations and modifications, supporting students during classroom instruction, and teaching/ reinforcing executive functioning.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

• an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
• strong verbal and written communication skills;
• a deep understanding of accommodations, modifications, and executive functioning strategies;
• the ability to support students in both classroom and small-group settings;
• the ability to work in an inclusionary, co-taught style model;
• a student-centered, flexible, and solution-oriented approach.

Experience working with middle school students with learning differences is required. An advanced degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field is preferred.
