Applewild School, Fitchburg, MA
Applewild is seeking a full-time Humanities teacher to join our 6th-9th grade faculty starting August, 2022. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the humanities, knowledge of project-based learning and experience in inspiring students to think critically.
- Teach four sections which will include some combination of: 6th and 7th grade English, 8/9 humanities, and a humanities elective.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the 8/9 loop on project-based curriculum design.
- Use Google classroom to post information about classes
- Participate in school-wide activities such as PLC’s, and faculty meetings.
- Engage in the life of Applewild as a club advisor, student advisor and coach.
- Experience teaching Humanities courses in middle school or upper school.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience working in independent schools preferred but not required
Applewild has been a cherished community institution since 1957 and we iteratively innovate our programs to offer a compelling and relevant education. We have a main campus in Fitchburg, Massachusetts which is approximately one hour from Boston. We offer preschool through 9th grade, including a small junior boarding program for students in grades 5-9. In 2014 we opened a satellite location in Devens which serves preschool through third grade and is growing. We also have “Foundations at Applewild” which is located on the Fitchburg campus and serves students in grades two through eighth with diagnosed language-based learning disabilities.
We are thankful to draw a broad range of students from over 32 towns and several countries, and well over half of our students receive financial assistance in order to attend. Our faculty have invested in their professional growth to create an educational environment that is deeply metacognitive — our goal is to teach children to be the protagonists in their own educations.
