Facilites Manager
Fayerweather Street School, Cambridge, MA
Fayerweather Street School seeks an experienced, hands-on Facilities Manager to lead the safety, stewardship, and operational excellence of our campus. Reporting to the Director of Finance, working closely with the Head of School, and another maintenance support worker, this position oversees the maintenance, operation, and long-term planning of our buildings and grounds. It requires the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, operate maintenance and snow-removal equipment, and stand or walk for extended periods. Work conditions may include varying temperatures, moderate noise, and exposure to mechanical equipment and cleaning materials. Occasional evenings and weekends are required to support school events or respond to emergencies, including weather-related operations such as snow removal.
Main Responsibilities:
Facilities & Operations

- Manage work orders and coordinate facilities support for school events, programs, and community use
- Maintain inventory of equipment, supplies, and replacement parts
- Supervise and mentor facilities staff, fostering a service-oriented team culture
- Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including custodial, landscaping, and specialized services
Safety, Compliance & Security
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards
- Maintain and update campus emergency response plans and safety procedures
- Serve as the primary point of contact for security and fire alarm systems
- Promote safe traffic flow and pedestrian safety on campus
Projects & Planning
- Oversee construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects, coordinating contractors to minimize disruption
- Evaluate service agreements and recommend improvements aligned with long-term campus planning and fiscal responsibility
- Serve as liaison with the City of Cambridge and local agencies on facilities matters
- Establish efficient systems and workflows that support the needs of students, faculty, and staff
Skills and Responsibilities:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- 3–6+ years of progressive facilities management experience, ideally in an educational or institutional setting
- Strong working knowledge of building systems — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance
- Experience supervising staff, managing contractors, and vendors
- Demonstrated ability to manage facilities budgets, preventive maintenance programs, and capital projects
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize competing needs and respond to emergencies
- Comfortable working alongside students and adults in an active school environment; experience with middle schoolers a plus
- Proficiency with Google Workspace or comparable tools
