Inly School is an independent PreK–8 Montessori-plus School located in Scituate, MA, 25 miles south of Boston. It has a student population of approximately 340 students, 76 employees, and serves 20 towns on the South Shore.

Job Summary

The Director of Finance and Operations is the Chief Financial Officer of the school. This position is responsible for the overall financial health of the organization. This role also manages all aspects of accounting, budgeting, and reporting functions as well as Personnel, Financial Assistance, Human Resources, IT, and Facilities. The Director of Finance and Operations reports to the Head of School, is a Senior member of the Administrative team, and works closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees. 


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manages all Business Office operations, including budgeting, accounting, financial analysis, payroll, HR Administration (in cooperation with an HR consultant), risk management, and benefits administration.
  • Manages and collaborates with all members of the Business Office.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable accounting procedures and standards, and all laws and regulations that govern the school’s programs and operations.
  • Reviewing, creating, and updating policies and procedures to ensure best practices in the Business Office.
  • Oversees the annual audit process.
  • Presents financial operating results and financial forecasts to Head of School, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees for review and discussion, as well as potential recommended actions. 
  • Identifies opportunities for increased revenue and cost savings. 
  • Oversees all aspects of plant management and facilities.
  • Manages the provision of all technology hardware, software and services for the school, in collaboration with the IT Director.
  • Develops relationships with parents, faculty, vendors, board members, and town officials to ensure problems are heard and that suggestions are thoughtfully considered to improve operations. 


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance
  • CPA or Certified Management Accountant preferred
  • Experience in a financial leadership role
  • Experience in the nonprofit field with educational institutions is strongly preferred
  • Full-time work on campus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to working collaboratively in a three-person office and a small administrative team
  • Proficiency in management accounting software, payroll systems and procurement systems from selection to alignment and implementation
  • IT conversion experience in Blackbaud, a plus
