The Director of Buildings and Grounds is responsible for the planning, administration, management, and supervision
of the school’s facilities and grounds. This includes performing all aspects of daily operations including event set
up, and planned maintenance programs for campus facilities, structures, systems, equipment, grounds, snow
removal, janitorial, and campus security. This position manages and oversees the scheduling of work orders,
develops and implements preventative maintenance programs, conducts inspections and oversees major capital
projects. The Director of Buildings and Grounds reports to the Chief Financial Officer/Assistant Head of School for
Campus Operations and Auxiliary Programs. The Director of Buildings and Grounds manages a staff of two, a
budget of $675,000, and a capital budget of $100,000. The position is responsible for ensuring that the school’s
buildings and 12-acre campus are safe, well maintained, attractive, supportive for the educational program and
welcoming for all constituents.

The Director of Buildings and Grounds is an engaged member of the school community, committed to collaborating
and growing in their field, participating in school events, and supporting other faculty/staff members.

Key responsibilities and duties
Buildings and Grounds
● Manage day-to-day operations for maintenance and grounds;
● Oversee the purchasing, maintenance, and upkeep of all equipment, building materials, and furniture;
● Manage the relationship and work of independent contractors;
● Create and maintain strong relationships with local contractors in all trades;
● Manage contractor bid process as necessary;
● Maintain excellent relationships with all constituents within the school including faculty, staff, Leadership Team,
students and families;
● Institute, schedule, and oversee all preventative maintenance programs;
● Oversee and perform snow and ice removal;
● Negotiate and manage all trade contracts;
● Oversee vendor/contractor activities to ensure high-quality of work, accurate invoicing and appropriate
management of work in relation to school and summer camp activities;
● Troubleshoot and problem-solve facility and maintenance issues;
● Manage an efficient work order system;
● Manage day to day responsibilities and duties of Buildings and Grounds staff;
● Execute logistical needs outlined in event planning forms;
● Ensure all building and fire codes and OSHA regulations are met;
● Management of and accountability for all buildings and grounds budgets;
● Collaborate with CFO/Assistant Head of School for Campus Operations and Auxiliary Programs regarding
large-scale projects and budgetary impact;
● Maintain excellent working relationships with appropriate city officials;
● Cultivate friendly relationships with neighbors.
