Position Summary
Tilton School, an independent secondary school in the Lakes Region, seeks a full-time Controller to oversee all general accounting functions. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the Controller is responsible for the direct supervision of the day-to-day operations of the financial management team, monthly reconciliations, timely preparation of financial reports, and works directly with independent auditors on the school’s annual audit.

Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to organize, coordinate and implement change, ensuring good communication, accountability and relationships with the school’s leadership, faculty, staff, and students in a diverse campus climate. Must demonstrate proficiency and accuracy with written and verbal communication, accounting software, web-based database skills, spreadsheet applications and exhibit the ability to manage competing demands.

Required Qualifications
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
● 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit environment
● Demonstrated experience with restricted fund accounting and endowment accounting
● Solid understanding of GAAP, particularly nonprofit accounting standards
● Experience managing audits and financial reporting processes
● CPA licensure and plus

Preferred Qualifications
● Experience with grant management and compliance reporting
● Advanced skills and experience with Excel and Google Workspace
● Experience using Sage Intacct or other cloud-based accounting system
