Derryfield is seeking a one year temporary faculty member to teach in the Visual Arts. As a faculty member, act as a positive educator and role model for the School community of students, parents, alumni, trustees and colleagues. Faculty member’s general duties include teaching up to 4 ⅓ classes, coaching two sports or the equivalent, advising students, leading an activity, service on a committee, providing extra help to students and attending school events and school year faculty orientation. The typical student load is 55-65 students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Visual Arts Teacher:

● Teach a variety of middle and upper school Visual Art classes, potentially including introductory Middle School courses, Graphic Design, Digital Photography and/or Ceramics.
● Promote learning, creativity and self-expression in Art by the students.

Skills/Knowledge/Aptitudes:

● Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Preferred) in subject matter.
● Energetic, patient and inspiring teacher and leader.
● Three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience and experience with implementing technology and multimedia in the classroom. Demonstrable computer literacy skills.
● Knowledge of and/or experience in independent schools.
● Clear alignment with institutional objectives, strategies and goals.
● Highly collaborative and team-oriented style.

● Excellent organizational skills and experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines (i.e. student comments, grades).
● A proven commitment to the development of young people as individual learners.
● A commitment to developing character and global citizenship, as well as an appreciation of people from diverse backgrounds in students.
● Interest in curriculum development within and across disciplines.
