Affinity Connection, Identity Exploration, and Leadership Coaching, Collaboration, and Support

Exclusively for Heads of AISNE Member Schools
This multi-part virtual learning experience, facilitated by Wanda M. Holland Greene, is designed for Heads of Color working in predominantly white schools and leadership environments. Now in its 5th year, this cohort remains a space for honest dialogue, meaningful connection, and continued leadership development. As we move into 2025–26, we’re welcoming new Heads of Color to join returning participants in building community, sharing wisdom, and strengthening each other through shared experience and support.

About the Cohort

Discussion matters—in our schools and in the world. Having space to talk in affinity and move through this experience together makes a difference. This cohort is here to support each person as they develop and strengthen their identity and leadership.

AISNE understands that being a Head of Color in a predominantly white school comes with both unique challenges and opportunities. The Heads of Color Cohort is one way AISNE supports building peer connection, growth, and leadership among peers.

From this cohort experience, you can expect to:

  • Carve out time for individual reflection and goal setting.
  • Devote time for collaborative goal setting for the group (in the first session). This will be an opportunity to share what you want and need from this time together, both from the cohort facilitator, Wanda Holland Greene, and from peers.
  • Share current successes and/or dilemmas at the start of each cohort session. Your input helps to surface priority topics for the group.
  • Engage in topical “mini workshops” as needed/desired. This is an opportunity for brief information presented with group processing and application to our various school communities.
  • Create the time, space, and opportunity for resource sharing. Heads can share information, techniques, and ideas.

About the Facilitator

Wanda M. Holland Greene is nationally recognized and respected as an experienced leader in education with a passionate voice and powerful presence that inspire communities to achieve equity and excellence for all children. For the past thirty years, Holland Greene has focused her professional time and attention on a wide and varied range of issues in education: mental health and emotional well-being; anti-racism and cultural competency; neuro-diversity and learning differences; gender inequity and stereotype threat in the classroom; effective performance appraisal systems for teachers; and global citizenship.

Prior to Holland Greene’s tenure at Hamlin, which began in 2008, she served for eleven years as a senior administrator at The Park School in Brookline, MA. She began her career in education in New York City at The Columbia Greenhouse Nursery School and continued thereafter at The Chapin School, where she was a teacher and the school’s first Director of Student Life. Currently, she is a Vice-Chair of the Columbia University Board of Trustees, a member of the Board of Regents of Bishop O’Dowd High School, a Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow at The Aspen Institute, and a former trustee of Head-Royce School, Concord Academy, The Chapin School, Lick-Wilmerding High School, and Hamilton Families. A former faculty member of the Head’s Network Leadership Seminar and the National Association of Independent School’s Aspiring Heads Fellowship, Holland Greene continues her mentorship and advocacy for brand new heads of school as an executive coach.

“My succinct definition of leadership rests in my head and heart: leadership is the courageous task of expanding the humanity and capacity of individuals and institutions so that they can repair the world….I believe that leaders should be the authors of change and that our potential as individuals and institutions will be limited if we do not heal the past, awaken our humanity, and vigorously pursue freedom for all people.” ~ Wanda M. Holland Greene
