Every school needs strong internal controls and finance office procedures to create a foundation for success for the entire school. Experienced school leaders may get comfortable in older systems and schools experiencing high turnover in the business office may be grasping for standard procedures.

Come to this session to learn, refresh, and advance your essential practices. We will discuss the controls environment as the cornerstone of trust, transparency, and stewardship and review common weak points seen in schools of all sizes.

David Kelleher and Lauren Duplin of AAFCPAs will walk us through nuts and bolts of the finance office, such as effective monthly close processes, general ledger structures, and generating easy-to-understand reports for trustees and other key school leaders. Time will be spent on how to identify and mitigate risk, from fraud to separation of duties, approval protocols and more.
