Substitute Teacher

St. Michael’s Country Day School, an independent, non-sectarian school in Newport, RI serving students in toddler through grade eight, has opened a search for Substitute Teachers in all disciplines.

Substitute Teachers play an important role in keeping our classrooms running smoothly and our students supported. We’re looking for individuals who are flexible, reliable, and comfortable stepping into a classroom ready to engage with children in a warm, structured, and responsive way.

Substitute Teachers have flexibility in the days and hours they work. The school day runs from 7:45am to 3:15 pm.

Candidates should have:

• A college degree
• Experience working with children in at least one of the following age groups:
  • Toddler (2-year-olds) through Prekindergarten (5-year-olds)
  • Kindergarten through Grade 4
  • Grades 5–8
• Prior substitute teaching or classroom teaching experience, or a teaching degree/certificate, is preferred but not required
• A calm, adaptable presence and the ability to step into varied classroom settings with confidence
• Clear, respectful communication with children, colleagues, and families
• Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to equity and inclusion

Working days: Monday–Friday, as needed
