The Sage School is seeking caring, flexible, and dependable Assistant Teachers to support our Early Childhood Program, serving children ages 21 months to 4 years. This role plays an important role in helping to maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment while supporting children through play-based, sensory-rich, and hands-on learning experiences.

This position is ideal for individuals interested in gaining experience in early childhood education within a collaborative and supportive school setting. For candidates who are a strong fit, there may be opportunities over time to grow into more consistent or full-time roles within the program.

The Sage School serves toddlers through Grade 8 students, enrolling approximately 150 students in Foxboro, MA. Sage, a school for gifted and talented students, is dedicated to offering advanced academics to students from the greater Boston and Providence areas. Assistant Teacher Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Curriculum Implementation:
    • Support the Classroom Teacher in implementing age-appropriate, play-based curriculum and activities.
  • Supervision and Care:
    • Supervise children during activities, playtime, meals, and outdoor time to ensure their safety and well-being.
    • Assist in maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment, including managing transitions, guiding behavior, and resolving conflicts in a warm, structured and engaging manner.
    • Employ a restorative approach to establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom culture that encourages active participation, collaboration, and mutual respect among students.
    • Contribute to providing a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
    • Assist the Classroom Teacher with health and safety routines, including diapering, potty training, and mealtimes.
    • Support children in developing foundational social and emotional skills, fostering independence, and encouraging curiosity.
  • Assessment and Documentation:
    • Help observe and document children’s developmental milestones to provide individualized support, and maintain accurate records of their milestones, behaviors, and achievements.
  • Parental Communication:
    • Collaborate with the Classroom Teacher to support open and effective communication with parents, keeping them informed about their child’s academic progress, activities, and any concerns that may arise.
    • Collaborate with the Classroom Teacher and parents to support the educational and social development of students.
  • Extracurricular Involvement:
    • Participate in and contribute to extracurricular activities, events, and school programs that enhance the overall school community.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Experience working with toddlers or young children in a childcare, camp, educational, or early learning setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with play-based and sensory learning approaches is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, follow directions, and adapt to the needs of young learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
  • A warm, patient, flexible approach and genuine enthusiasm for working with young children.

 

Reports to: Early Childhood Program Coordinator and Assistant Heads of School
