French Teacher (.6 FTE)

Ursuline Academy, an independent Catholic college-preparatory school for girls in grades 7–12, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and student-centered French Teacher (0.6 FTE) – teaching 3 classes. Rooted in the traditions of the Ursuline Sisters, Ursuline Academy is committed to academic excellence, faith development, leadership, and service. The successful candidate will teach approximately three sections of French, primarily at the middle school and introductory high school levels. Courses may include French 7, French 8, French 1, and French 2. The ideal candidate is a warm, collaborative educator who enjoys working with adolescents and is passionate about helping beginning language learners develop confidence, curiosity, and communication skills. They will create engaging, student-centered learning experiences that promote language proficiency, cultural understanding, and an appreciation for the diverse cultures of the French-speaking world.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Teach French courses primarily at the middle school and introductory high school levels. Courses may include French 7, French 8, French 1, and French 2.
- Design and deliver engaging, proficiency-based lessons that promote language acquisition, communication skills, and cultural understanding.
- Implement curriculum aligned with department goals, ACTFL standards, and best practices in world language instruction.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and educational technology to support student engagement and learning.
- Foster an appreciation for the languages and cultures of the French-speaking world through meaningful and authentic learning experiences.
Student Learning & Support
- Create a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that encourages confidence, curiosity, and active participation.
- Monitor student progress and use assessment data to inform instruction and support individual learning needs.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
- Differentiate instruction and assessment as appropriate to support diverse learners.
- Provide additional academic support through extra help, student conferences, and skill development opportunities.
Collaboration & School Responsibilities
- Collaborate with members of the World Language Department to support curriculum development, program improvement, and departmental initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and student support personnel regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Perform assigned supervisory duties and support the daily operations of the school.
- Contribute to the broader life of the Ursuline community through participation in school events, activities, and programs.
Working Environment
This position is based on campus and involves daily work in classroom settings. The role requires regular interaction with students, faculty, and families, as well as participation in meetings, school events, and occasional evening or weekend commitments. Teachers must be comfortable working with computers and materials in accordance with established protocols and able to manage a dynamic, student-centered learning environment.
Compensation: $30,000 – $50,000
This is a part-time (benefits-eligible), academic-year position (10 months). The salary range represents the established compensation parameters for this role. Placement within the range is based on years of experience, qualifications, and internal equity to ensure consistent and equitable compensation.
