Learning Specialist

Burr and Burton Academy seeks a full-time Learning Specialist (Special Educator) starting August 2026. The Learning Specialist provides direct instruction specifically designed to meaningfully impact students’ IEP goals. The Learning Specialist also delivers targeted interventions in basic skill areas, using evidence-based data to refine instructional strategies and ensure student success. A key component of the position is collaborating with general education teachers to develop accessible learning for students across a variety of curricular experiences and models. The Learning Specialist ensures that learning environments are inclusive and that accommodations are seamlessly integrated into the curriculum.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver special education services in basic skill areas; support Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

  • Plan, lead, and manage IEP meetings with clear communication and a firm grasp of special education regulations.

  • Complete and interpret comprehensive educational evaluations to inform the development of robust, individualized programs.

  • Facilitate transition activities and collaborate with external agencies to prepare students for independent living and post-secondary work opportunities.

  • Support students with diverse needs, including social cognition, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges.

Qualifications

  • Current Vermont state licensure in Special Education.

  • Proven track record of specialized instruction in math, reading, writing, technology integration, and MTSS.

  • Candidates must demonstrate initiative, a calm and supportive demeanor, and the ability to work as a collaborative team member with educators, families, and outside agencies.
