Physical Education Teacher
We seek a dynamic and skilled teacher to join our physical education and athletics department. This person will implement and maintain the school’s comprehensive pre-kindergarten through grade eight program. A qualified candidate will possess a passion for teaching and promote a physically active, healthy lifestyle in elementary and middle school students’ lives. They will be an enthusiastic, dynamic, and vibrant member of the community who upholds the school’s values and shares a dedication to educating the whole child. This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit-eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the director of athletics. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored relocation.
Responsibilities:
- Co-teach physical education classes in pre-kindergarten to grade five.
- Coach all three seasons of middle school athletics for grades six to eight.
- Collaborate to design and implement a comprehensive pre-kindergarten to grade eight curriculum.
- Commit to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in and out of the classroom.
- Demonstrate instructional excellence by knowing students, adapting curriculum, and keeping careful anecdotal records to write thoughtful reports.
- Remain current with best practices for the developmental needs of children and adolescents, and take advantage of professional development opportunities.
- Embrace the school’s six core values and become a contributing member of the community through various schoolwide duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Experience teaching elementary physical education required; additional middle school experience preferred
- Coaching experience preferred
- Excellent communication (written/verbal) and organizational skills
- Collaborative team player and advocate for self and community
- Cultural competency with a strong commitment to equity and inclusion
- Professional development experience in physical education, diversity, and health and wellness
- A sense of humor, flexibility, energy, patience, and creativity
- Strong collegial and interpersonal skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
We offer competitive salaries and benefits, and a compensation strategy that prioritizes pay equity for faculty with similar years of teaching experience and relevant advanced degrees. Based on the minimum years of experience required for this role, the salary range for this position is $69,438 to $99,785 for twenty years of prior teaching experience.
