About Sant Bani School (SBS): SBS is a Preschool-8th Grade day school nestled in rural Sanbornton, New Hampshire, near the woods, lakes, and mountains our state has to offer. At SBS, we believe that we have something to learn from everyone, and we emphasize community engagement through service and experiential learning. Our mission is to provide a high-level, comprehensive educational experience while also recognizing the value of the spirit. We offer small class sizes, with a total school enrollment of around 140 students, and a dedicated adult community of about 30 collaborative, dynamic, and highly-qualified staff members. Position Description: We are seeking an experienced middle school educator to teach middle school (Grades 6-8) English, and be a member of the middle school teaching team. The middle school English curriculum includes a combination of literary analysis, creative and expository writing, and grammatical structures and vocabulary. The English curriculum is linked to the social studies curriculum, which focuses on three essential questions: 6th: Why do humans create societies? 7th: What does it mean to be American? 8th: Why do nations agree and disagree? Faculty members assume responsibilities in teaching, lunch and recess duties, clubs or electives, after-school activities programs, committee work, and professional development as assigned. Teaching faculty fulfill 8 weeks of After School Activities duty (6 weeks as assigned, 2 weeks as substitutes). This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Educational Programs.
Work Hours: Typical in-school hours are 8:00 am-3:30 pm, plus After School Activity blocks (3:30 pm – 4:30 pm), and other times as assigned by the Head of School.
Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and teach 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade English
- Set clear, well-paced learning objectives and provide regular feedback to students regarding their progress
- Collaborate with other middle school teachers, especially social studies, to coordinate curriculum themes/strands
- Act as an advisor to approximately 6 students in grades 6, 7, and 8
- Communicate with parents about curriculum and student progress
- Brainstorm ideas for and teach middle school Elective classes
- Work collaboratively with the 6-8 team to build a middle school community, to organize field trips and social events, to supervise activities/clubs, and to share information about students
- Participate as a full member of the SBS faculty (e.g., participating in recess and lunch duties, attending staff meetings, serving on a committee, etc.)
