Part-Time Lower School Spanish & World Culture Teacher

Faculty / Full-Time
Annual Salary Range: $35,000 – $50,000

Brookwood School, Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA

Job Summary:

We are seeking a warm, engaging, and creative part-time Spanish and World Cultures teacher for the Lower School who is passionate about introducing young learners to world languages through culture. The ideal candidate will foster curiosity, global awareness, and joy in learning by emphasizing cultural traditions, music, stories, celebrations, food, geography, and everyday life in communities around the world, with a particular focus on Spanish-speaking communities.

This position prioritizes cultural exploration and joyful language exposure over formal grammar instruction, helping students build positive attitudes toward language learning at an early age. In Grades Kindergarten through Two, the candidate will design and facilitate a play-based, exploratory Spanish language program for students in grades K–2. Instruction will emphasize oral language development, listening comprehension, and cultural awareness through songs, stories, games, movement, and hands-on activities. Lessons will be developmentally appropriate and rooted in joyful participation, with a focus on building students’ comfort with language, curiosity about Spanish-speaking cultures, and positive early experiences with world language learning.

In Third and Fourth grade, the candidate will spend half a year instructing in French language and culture and the other half in Spanish language and culture as they prepare students who will choose one of these languages in their fifth grade year. Teaching remains interactive and engaging, without reliance on textbooks, and is designed to prepare students to make an informed and confident choice between French or Spanish in Grade 5.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver age-appropriate Spanish and World Culture lessons with a strong focus on culture and global understanding
  • Introduce basic vocabulary and phrases through songs, games, stories, movement, and hands-on activities

  • Create an inclusive, joyful classroom environment that encourages participation and curiosity
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators to align cultural themes across the curriculum
  • Prepare simple materials and activities that support experiential learning
  • Communicate student progress informally through observation and participation
  • Collaborate with world language Team and attend bi-weeklyweekly world language meetings
  • Participate in school events and cultural celebrations as appropriate
  • Other duties as required and assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Teaching certification or coursework in education or world languages
  • Experience teaching young children (elementary/early childhood experience strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Passion for cultural education and global learning
  • Ability to engage and manage groups of young learners with warmth and enthusiasm
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a child-centered teaching approach
  • Experience in immersion, enrichment, or exploratory language programs
  • Experience demonstrating classroom management
