The Phoenix School has been redefining education for over 40 years—long before terms like “student-centered learning” and “project-based curriculum” became common. From the start, we’ve believed that children learn best when they are empowered to take ownership of their education.

Today, our intentionally small, K–8 learning community in Salem, MA continues to break down the traditional walls of education—between grades, subjects, and even the school building itself. At Phoenix, students don’t just memorize facts—they solve real-world problems, explore deeply, collaborate across age groups, and engage with their local and global communities.

Our students develop the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world: curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, perseverance, empathy, and a deep sense of global citizenship.
