World Language Teacher – Lower School Spanish (part-time)

 

Belmont Day School seeks a dynamic, skilled, and creative Spanish teacher for grades pre-kindergarten through four. This person will be an integral member of the world language department and a member of grade-level teams. The lower school world language curriculum is currently unit-based with a focus on exposure to aural and reading comprehension, vocabulary, oral activities, and cultural aspects of the language.   

 

This is a part-time (.5 FTE), exempt, and benefit-eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the lower school head. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored relocation.

 

We offer competitive salaries and benefits, as well as a compensation strategy that prioritizes pay equity for faculty with similar years of teaching experience and relevant advanced degrees. Based on the minimum years of experience required for this role and the part-time nature, the salary range for this position is $33,350 to $49,575 for twenty years of prior teaching experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop an inaugural lower school Spanish curriculum. Please note: This work will be in addition to the role itself and will include stipend time for summer development.
  • Utilize authentic hands-on materials and engaging resources to design and deliver rigorous, effective, compelling, and developmentally appropriate curricular experiences.
  • Work to ensure academic excellence, namely, the ability of students to approach novel tasks with the confidence, mindset, and skills to accomplish them successfully.
  • Collaborate with lower school grade-level teams and the world language department to support co-curricular programming and the development of students beyond the classroom.
  • Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records to inform and write comprehensive student reports.
  • Provide regular, constructive, and specific feedback to students to encourage their growth and improvement as language learners.
  • Establish and maintain strong home-school partnerships with families to ensure students’ success.
  • Commit to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in and out of the classroom.
  • Support students with varying learning styles and profiles through differentiation. 
  • Engage with students routinely by providing coverage at lunch, recess, dismissal, or other duties as needed.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Proficiency in and experience teaching Spanish
  • Experience teaching early childhood and elementary-aged students

  • Ability to develop age-appropriate thematic and cumulative curriculum
