Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks a Technology Manager to manage and support all aspects of the School’s technology infrastructure, program and services. The Technology Manager leads technology strategic planning, implementation, and management of all technology systems and initiatives. This role ensures that technology supports the School’s mission, enhances educational delivery, and improves operational efficiency. The Technology Manager works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to integrate technology into the curriculum and daily operations.

This is a 12-month, exempt position reporting to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer. All Walnut Hill faculty/staff are active and engaged members of the school community committed to collaborating and growing in their field, participating in school events and supporting students in their arts, supporting other faculty/staff members, and can self-reflect on their own practice.

Responsibilities: 

Database & Software Management:

  • Negotiate, implement, and monitor all software contracts and agreements;
  • Ensure the integrity, reliability, backups, and security of all School-wide database systems including but not limited to Veracross, Proof student information system, Reach, Magnus, Intellispark, and CrisisGo;
  • Ensure security and quality control over all School databases and software systems;
  • Manage the import/export of data from system to system;
  • Ensure that School-wide databases are kept in sync automatically and facilitate communications between different databases;
  • Create and maintain data standards for School-wide databases; and
  • Maintain all documentation and support for mission-critical administrative tools.

Strategic Planning: Under the direction of the CFOO and in partnership with other community members, develop and implement a comprehensive technology plan that aligns with the School’s mission and goals.

Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and direction for the School’s technology initiatives, including project management for all projects associated with technology, including upgrades and transitional initiatives entity wide. Supervise in-house or outsourced Helpdesk technicians and provide mentoring, direction, and feedback to direct reports.

Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in education technology and recommend innovative solutions to enhance teaching and learning. 

Infrastructure and Systems Management: Ensure the coordination, security, and efficacy of the network infrastructure. Identify, suggest, and implement improvements to the entire systems environment.  Ensure the timely maintenance and upgrading of the School’s technology infrastructure, including networks, hardware, and software. Administer the School’s network, servers, databases, data storage, phone system, A/V installations, printers, copiers, and any other IT infrastructure needs to deliver reliable service to all members of the community. Ensure that proper systems, policies, and procedures are in place and up-to-date for data backup, incident response, and disaster recovery.

Support and Training: Design and provide training for faculty, staff, students, and parents on the effective use of the School’s technology and cyber security. Be a visible presence and partner to the community in addressing technology concerns and potential needs both now and in the future.

Budget Management: Develop and manage the technology budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while staying within the School’s stated annual and capital budgets.

Policy Development: Establish and enforce technology policies and procedures to ensure data security and compliance with relevant regulations.

Vendor Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors, including outsourced services, and service providers.

Other: Perform other duties as needed and assigned.

Community Involvement & Engagement:

  • Actively participate in the student community by supporting the Student Life program which may include serving as a faculty or club advisor, chaperoning School events, providing weekend duty (4x per year), or other opportunities for community involvement that arise throughout the school year;
  • Speak authentically about the imperative for diversity, equity, and inclusion in schools; be committed to learning about and practicing anti-racist work; and
  • Attend, support, and engage richly in arts productions, shows, exhibitions, and performances and School wide events and programs such as Family Weekend, Open House, Class Night, Boar’s Head, Candlelight, Awards Ceremony, and Graduation.

Collaboration, Professional Development, and Training:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive working and educational environment for students and employees to support the School’s mission, vision, and core values;
  • Attend and participate in all faculty and staff meetings and department meetings; participate in Departmental Reviews and self-study; participate and engage fully in individual reviews and evaluations; be open to feedback and work with supervisor to set goals and expectations for the future; and
  • Pursue PD opportunities in and out of school; display willingness and ability to grow, learn, explore new approaches, and practice self-reflection.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred); related certifications may be considered in lieu of, or in combination with a degree;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technology help desk support, systems administration, and/or network engineering, preferably in an educational setting, and 2+ years of management and supervisory experience required;
  • Strong leadership and project management skills;
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets;
  • Skilled in drafting user-friendly documentation for technology systems;
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion;
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a changing, fast-paced environment;
  • Knowledge of educational technology trends and best practices;
  • Proficiency in Tier 1 technology support, network administration, hardware, and software management including deploying and managing both Windows and Apple devices, certificates, automated profile enrollment, scripting, group policy, databases, and database administration;
  • Experience with Mac OS, Windows, Microsoft 365, Google Applications, SIS, LMS, and Adobe Suite; Knowledge of AI tools, audio mixer sound boards, microphones, and projection systems; and
  • Commitment to and strong understanding of cultural competency.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands include dexterity for electrical, mechanical, and supply operation including but not limited to using electrical equipment, electronic devices, computers, televisions, projectors, phones, power and hand tools, writing, typing, and using office machinery such as copy machines, fax machines, and printers. Walking, ascending/descending stairs, stooping, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to lift, push/pull and/or carry up to 30 pounds with or without using appropriate tools or equipment as needed.
