The Physics teacher is a qualified, passionate, and innovative teacher with expertise in teaching the full range of a high school Physics curriculum with the opportunity to teach AP Physics. The teacher is crucial in fostering a student-driven community and learning environment characterized by resilience, respect, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging. Adolescents are empowered with agency, supported within a structured framework, and guided through mentorship to thrive and grow. As a faculty member, they work to advance Gould’s mission, vision, and values in a residential community. 

While individual responsibilities may vary, these serve as general guidelines: 

• Teaching: Faculty teach four classes per semester and provide timely and supportive feedback to students. 
• Community Life: Campus housing provides an important part of engaging in Gould’s student-centered community and residential life. Each faculty member is generally responsible for one weekend per month and one night per week of evening community duty.
• Advising: Faculty serve as guides and mentors for the student and family/guardian experience. The adviser is the primary connection between an advisee’s family/guardian and the school and supports 6-8 advisees. 
• Extracurricular Activities: Faculty are expected to participate in the school’s extracurricular activities for 2 of the three seasons (e.g. coaching, advising student clubs, and/or committee work).

Qualification Requirements

• Experience teaching Physics is preferred but not required 
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in content area preferred
• Commitment to a student-centered, experiential, process-based pedagogy 
• Commitment to working with adolescent students and adult colleagues in a boarding school environment
• Obtain CHRC certification from the Maine Department of Education
• Possess a valid driver’s license
