Lawrence Academy (LA) is a boarding and day school in Groton, MA, serving 400 students in grades 9-12. LA enjoys its heritage as one of the oldest independent schools in the country while embracing a contemporary student-centered approach that supports its mission. In LA’s tightly knit environment, students are supported and encouraged to exercise their minds, discover their voices, learn creatively, and take their own initiative. The academic program is uniquely hands-on and allows students to discover how their education can be applied in daily life.
LA has a full-time opening for an inspirational, innovative Photography/Digital Visual Arts Teacher starting August 2025. Teaching responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to teaching Honors Digital Media, Animation, Film, Digital Photography, and Artistic Expression. The ideal candidate will be a passionate artist and educator comfortable teaching a variety of digital media and will foster a creative, student-centered learning environment, empowering students to explore their artistic potential and develop as visual communicators through the use of modern technology. Candidates must be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum and resources and bring an active interest in collaborative work with colleagues within and beyond the art department. Candidates should also embrace a growth mindset in everything they do, be willing to support each student’s journey and develop learning strategies to help a range of students to achieve success.
Signature parts of Lawrence Academy’s Arts Program are a commitment to process, individual creative growth, and the development of material this is responsive to the world around us. Candidates should be interested in developing their technological skills and applications for use in the classroom. Candidates must also be very comfortable working one-on-one with students and be open and accessible for extra help; important components of being a faculty member at Lawrence Academy.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, candidates must be willing to engage in all aspects of boarding school life from curricular, co-curricular (primarily athletics), and extracurricular programs at the school. Campus housing is available for faculty positions. Interested candidates should expect to live in a dormitory, but on-campus (non-dorm) or off-campus housing might be an available alternative. All members of the faculty are part of our residential program and have regular weeknight duty and some weekend duties.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree and expertise in subject matter.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for working with high school age students both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Successfully complete required background checks (criminal (CORI) check, sexual offender (SORI) check, driving records and fingerprinting).
