Job Summary: 

BB&N is seeking a full-time Grades 5-8 Mathematics Coordinator/Intervention Specialist. This position has responsibility in two primary areas: (1) coordinating and supporting curriculum implementation and alignment across grades 5-8; and (2) providing intervention support, through direct work with students and consulting with teachers, for students with identified learning needs in mathematics. BB&N recently selected and is in the first year of implementing Open Up Resources/Illustrative Mathematics, augmented by Desmos, for grades 6-8. Candidates should have deep knowledge and experience with these conceptual, problem-solving approaches to math instruction as well as a track record of successful teaching in the middle grades.

Essential responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

Curriculum Coordination

  • Possess expertise in Open Up Resources, Illustrative Mathematics, and/or Amplify Desmos Math to support teachers in the implementation of these curricula.

  • Support aligned and equitable math instruction in grades 5-8.

  • Review scope and sequence documents and revise periodically as needed.

  • Lead the process of interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement, including partnering with the Director of Institutional Research to engage in periodic program evaluation.

  • Facilitate teachers’ use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners and common assessments.

  • Onboard and support teachers in the understanding and delivery of the school curriculum through collaborative long-range and short-range planning and coaching.

  • Co-plan and teach two periods per week of 5th-grade mathematics to model effective instruction and understand the teacher experience.

  • Collaborate with administrators to provide leadership and staff development for the mathematics program.

  • Communicate the mathematics program to BB&N’s wider community (families and faculty).

  • Serve as a member of the B-12 Mathematics leadership team (along with the K-4 Coordinator; MS Department Head; and US Department Head) to facilitate smooth transitions between grade levels and campuses

Intervention Support

  • Serve as a member of the Student Support Services Team, collaborating with the Learning and Academic Specialists to provide direct service to students with a variety of mild to moderate academic needs.  Support is offered during set blocks of time every day of the week.

  • Provide direct support instruction to students with learning issues across the math curriculum, including skill development around organization, Executive Functions, and study skills.

  • Plan, develop, and administer regular individual and group instruction meetings with students, as determined with Learning Specialists; and prepare reports to document academic progress.

  • Collaborate with outside providers to support progress.

Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with implementing and supporting colleagues with Open Up Resources, Illustrative Mathematics, and/or Desmos

  • Experience designing and adapting curriculum to meet the needs of a range of learners

  • Deep knowledge of math curriculum and pedagogy

  • A strong understanding of the developmental needs of 10-14 year-olds

  • Excellent writing skills

  • A collaborative and flexible approach to working with colleagues

  • Effective communication with colleagues, parents and students

  • High standards of professional conduct

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive community

Salary: $67,500.00 – $100,146.00

BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits and employs equitable and consistent compensation practices. Our compensation strategy prioritizes equity of pay for faculty with similar years of teaching experience. Starting full-time salaries for the 2024-2025 school year typically range from a starting salary of $67,500 to the median 20-year teaching experience salary of $100,146.00  Both of these salaries are exclusive of additional compensation granted to faculty with relevant advanced degrees.  The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.

Compensation for full-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.
