Fifth Grade Teacher – Long-term Substitute, January to June, 2025

Position Summary: Immediate opening for a long-term substitute position for a Grade 5 Lead Teacher. We have a talented and supportive teaching team in place, and we are seeking a dynamic individual to join us. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing the reading and writing curriculum for 25 students, serving as the homeroom teacher, assessing students’ educational development, communicating with families, and supporting the school’s mission. The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively, has a genuine passion for upper elementary students, shares a commitment to our school’s values, and has demonstrated strength in literacy instruction.
This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and hourly for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year, starting on or before January 6, 2025, and ending June 12, 2025.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with grade-level colleagues, plan and implement the academic program.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
- Support the implementation of the Open Circle curriculum and attend to the social and emotional development of individual students and the class as a whole.
- Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress toward learning objectives.
- Differentiate teaching methods, assignments, and/or assessments to meet students’ needs.
- Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and safety, and order materials to support the classroom environment.
- Communicate regularly with families concerning student progress and information about academic programming and classroom events.
- Co-plan and co-lead parent-teacher conferences.
- Write narrative progress reports to record and communicate students’ progress.
- Collaborate with content specialists, classroom interns, or associate teachers, as applicable.
- Manage classroom administrative tasks, including taking daily attendance and ordering materials.
- Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned.
- Support field trips and other activities to enrich the educational experience.
- Attend staff meetings and school professional development as scheduled.
- Participate in all-school activities, such as Admissions open houses and other community events
- Regularly update curriculum materials.
- Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in education or related field preferred.
- Experience working with children in this age range and with reading and writing instruction.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
