The Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy seeks a personable, energetic, creative, and self-directed individual to join our library team for the remainder of the 2024-2025 academic school year. The successful candidate will assist with electronic database management, classroom instruction, reference services, and working at the Welcome Desk.

 This is a temporary, 40-hour-per-week position. This position will work one evening per week, Thursdays 1:30-9:30 PM, and may have an occasional Sunday shift. 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Assist with the management of our 140+ database subscriptions, including troubleshooting with vendors, link maintenance, and new database acquisition.
  • Provide reference and research assistance to the community by working on the Welcome Desk and meeting one-on-one with students for reference appointments.
  • Support the OWHL’s instruction program, which includes planning, teaching, and assessing teacher-requested instruction sessions.
  • Participate in collection maintenance activities, including shelf reading, material de-selection, and inventory.

Qualifications required: 

  • Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with electronic resource management in an academic environment.
  • One to two years of experience in, and enthusiasm for, developing and teaching effective library instruction sessions and curricula.
  • Ability to communicate about current information and emerging technologies.
  • Current experience in providing reference services and conducting one-on-one consultative reference interviews.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred experience: 

  • Working in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
  • Ability to work with Evergreen ILS, SpringShare, and Microsoft365.
  • Strong candidates will also have experience working with teens and have an understanding of their mindset, academic needs, and interests.
