Position Summary
Bancroft School is seeking a full-time Early Years Instructional Assistant to join our dynamic team of educators for the 2025-26 school year. Ideal candidates for this role are organized, creative, and effective communicators. This position will work closely with the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten team in the care and instruction of young students as well as cultivate positive relationships with families. They will differentiate the literacy and math curricula for students and implement all aspects of the daily program. The assistant teacher will also share responsibilities for recess, lunch, and the extended day program (2 pm – 3:30 pm). Candidates should feel an alignment with Bancroft School’s mission and values and Learning Laboratory Method, a project-based approach to teaching and learning. Experience with 3 and 4 year old students and Bachelor’s degree in Education are preferred.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher to implement an inquiry-based curriculum that aligns with early childhood educational approaches and focuses on age-appropriate learning activities.
- Create a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment that encourages active participation and cooperation among children.
- Assist the classroom teacher to deliver lessons and activities that promote the development of essential skills, including language and literacy, mathematics, and social skills.
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians, providing updates on their child’s development and addressing concerns or questions.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and encourage appropriate social interactions among children.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children by following health and safety guidelines, including sanitation and emergency procedures.
- Work closely with the classroom teacher and other early childhood educators, support staff, and administrators to create a cohesive educational environment.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and research in early childhood education through ongoing training and professional development.
- Working hours are 7:30-3:30pm Monday-Friday.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in working with 4-5 year olds in a classroom setting. Multiple years of experience is preferred.
- An Associate’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in working with young children and their families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
