
Director of Marketing & Communications

Position Summary
The Director of Marketing & Communications supports the overall internal and external communications functions of Falmouth Academy. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and analyzing overall marketing strategies and comprehensive communications to strengthen awareness of and promote the school’s brand with a primary focus on driving enrollment growth and retention. Essential responsibilities include creating multimedia content, managing all social and digital media, crafting inspiring and impactful stories, ensuring brand awareness and consistency across platforms, and designing and producing digital and print communications for both internal and external audiences. S/he must have the ability to think creatively, strategize thoughtfully, and work collaboratively. The role requires excellent skills in time and project management, and involves significant writing, design, and creative work, balancing a broad strategic vision with the detailed execution of tactics that build brand awareness and foster constituent loyalty.
This position reports to the Head of School, sits on the Advancement team (Admissions, Development, MARCOM), and works in close collaboration with the Admissions and Development Offices, as well as with other faculty and staff as needed. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy Development & Branding
- Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications plan to increase awareness of and affinity for Falmouth Academy among all key constituencies, including parents, faculty and staff, grandparents, alumni, donors, friends, and community partners.
- Lead the school’s brand strategy, ensuring consistency with its visual identity across all digital, print, and multimedia platforms and the FA website.
- Oversee the development and management of the marketing and communications budget, including planning for ad placements, collateral production, and campaign tools.
- Evaluate and manage digital tools/platforms used across departments for purposes of marketing and communications; provide internal training and guidance on best practices around communications systems and workflows. Analyze performance metrics (web, social, press, campaigns) to adjust and optimize strategy.
- Manage multiple projects under strict deadlines, balancing strategic and tactical plans.
- Serve as an integral member of the administrative team, counseling the school’s leadership on all matters related to marketing and communications.
Content Creation
Admissions, Enrollment, and Retention
- Manage the design and production of all written, visual, video, and audio assets to market FA to prospective families and students, and re-market FA to current families and students to promote retention.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Office to develop and execute campaigns, ads, email flows, postcards, and yield materials.
- Create editorial content; produce, script, and edit videos; curate and manage a library of digital assets; generate graphic designs; and ensure a consistent visual identity across the FA brand.
- Create and manage all enrollment-driven digital campaigns across various platforms, including Meta, Instagram, Google, LinkedIn, Vimeo, YouTube, and others.
- Manage the school’s website by regularly refreshing the content, news, and videos.
- Partner with the Admissions office as needed at events, on and off campus.
Development and Alumni Relations
- Partner with the Development Office to support all philanthropic communications, including:
- Annual Fund, Giving Day, and Gala/Auction
- Donor newsletters, invitations, and stewardship materials
- Print/digital ads, event programs, promotional collateral, and signage
- Ticketing and RSVP platforms, email campaigns, and social media pushes
- Produce the school’s print magazine and digital annual report aimed at increasing alumni engagement and improving donor stewardship. Responsible for writing or assigning articles, editing, photography, design, production, and distribution.
- Provide event marketing and invitations for development and community events, including donor receptions, the annual benefit auction, concerts, and other events as required.
School-Wide
- Edit and produce a weekly e-newsletter for parents, faculty, and other close constituents. Responsible for writing or assigning articles, editing, photography, design, production, and distribution.
- Draft, edit, and send school-to-home messages on behalf of teachers, departments, and leadership.
- Maintain the school’s intranet and resource boards, providing editorial content, design, and quality control.
- Serve as the point person to ensure consistent visual identity and branding across institutional presentations, publications, and school swag.
- Provide marketing and communications support for internal and public events.
- Collaborate with Athletics and FA SUMMER to support outreach and branding.
- Support faculty and staff with formatting, messaging, and content for events, programs, and external communications.
- Serve as the liaison with the external community, with an eye toward enhancing brand visibility, identifying opportunities for our students, and fostering partnerships.
- Delegate tasks as needed.
- Be a presence at school, co-curricular, and social events.
Media & Public Relations
- Establish and maintain strong relationships among all constituencies of Falmouth Academy, including students, parents, alumni, community members, faculty members, staff members, and administrators. Maintain visibility on campus through interactions with these constituents and participation in school activities.
- Write and distribute 3–5 press releases per month about student, faculty, and institutional achievements.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with regional and local media outlets.
- Draft and place radio ad scripts and coordinate ad buys.
- Serve as chief spokesperson for Falmouth Academy in the event of a crisis; serve as a member of the emergency management team; manage crisis communications and PR.
Essential Skills
- Powerful proficiency in social and digital media, content development and repurposing, editing and copywriting, and video production and editing.
- Expertise with new and emerging media and a growth mindset towards developing and managing CRM, database, and email marketing platforms, including a willingness to learn new tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a genuine love of storytelling.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to pivot and adapt to change, take initiative, and be self-directed while working independently, and communicate and meet deadlines.
- Experience in the education sector, specifically in independent settings, is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.
- Demonstrated history of leadership, creativity, and collaboration.
- Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment, and integrity.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods.
- Ability to be mobile in a multi-story building.
- Be able to lift 15 lbs.
- Work intermittently outside.
- Occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
