Director, Affinity Based Engagement

The Office of Alumni Engagement is seeking Director of Affinity Based Engagement.  Reporting to the Director for Alumni Engagement, this position leads Phillips Academy’s effort to engage alumni based on affinity formed around a shared identity, interest or common goal. The position would assess the wide-ranging of connections and interests of our alumni body and build a business plan for the engagement of our alumni through affinity.  They will provide strategic direction to develop and execute programming focused on engaging alumni through affinity programs that that span a wide range of communities and connections, including Af-Lat-Am Alumni, LGBTQ+ alumni, athletics, military and more to be explored. Volunteer management and partnership will be critical, thus regular contact and relationships with volunteers, Alumni Council Committees and Reunion Volunteers will be a pillar for this position.

Specific Responsibilities

As a member of the alumni engagement team, the director will engage alumni based on affinity through volunteer management, committee work and event management.  The engagement team supports this work as whole, colleagues in development, communications and partners in our campus community.  This position also supports, in part, the focus of the other two pillars of Andover’s engagement work, regional based and class based programming.

  • Overseeing an affinity based program that evaluates possible segmentations and puts forth a strategy.
  • Leading Andover’s strategies to evaluates current programs for mission and programs.
  • Participating in leading the engagement initiatives of Phillips Academy under the direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement and in partnership with key colleagues.
  • Track and analyze alumni data to evaluate effectiveness of affinity initiatives and inform future programming.
  • Stay informed about best practices of engagement around affinity and other alumni engagement fields.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in a professional position, preferably in a position(s) that included project management, event planning and volunteer management experience. Transferable skills and fields are enthusiastically welcome.

Ideal Candidate must possess the following:

  • Capacity to work in culturally responsive professional practices that incorporate diverse perspective from al constituents.
  • Proven ability to design and execute programs at a detailed level, events and initiatives that cater to the interests and needs of diverse alumni communities; managing process and volunteers simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated initiative and savviness in cross-cultural competence ability to value, work within interact within and incorporate diverse perspectives.
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision but also as a member of the Alumni Engagement Team.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with multiple constituencies and deliver strong customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, and domestic travel to areas of high alumni concentration.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, and social media platforms.
  • Outstanding organization skills and attention to detail.
