- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate instruction for 45-minute semester-long computer lessons once a week for students in K-5 classes and year-long, every-other-week classes for Pre-K students
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with school and curriculum standards, and state and national technology standards, including basic coding, digital citizenship, typing, and creative software use
- Use a variety of teaching methods to reach all learners and to inspire creativity, self-expression, and appreciation for computer and technology
- Guide students in exploring various forms, styles, genres, and techniques related to computer and technology
- Establish and maintain a positive, engaging classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperations, and active learning
- Address the individual academic and emotional needs of each student, promoting growth and encouraging confidence in their abilities
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success and ensure cohesive cross-curricular learning
- Regularly communicate with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, achievements, and areas of growth. Effort grades are provided quarterly in Classes 3-5 and each semester in K-1. Formal written student narrative comments for every student are provided at the close of each year
- Implement effective assessment tools to evaluate, record, and report on student progress
- Actively participate in grade-level and divisional meetings, school functions, and professional development opportunities. Serve on division and school-wide committees and initiatives. Maintain accurate records of student performance and report progress as required
- Manage and organize materials and resources for computer and technology
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom and learning environment, ensuring proper care of instruments, supplies, books, and other resources.
- Stay current with educational technology trends and professional development opportunities
- Supervise students during morning, lunchtime, and afternoon duties as part of the lower school faculty team
- Occasional extended hours, including after school, evenings, and weekends may be required (open houses, parent-teacher conferences)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, computer science, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- Three or more years of teaching experience
- Specialized knowledge and expertise witha focus on technology and digital literacy
- Experience integrating STEM and interdisciplinary learning into a computer curriculum.
- Familiarity with state and national technology standards for elementary education
- Strong background in elementary school teaching, pedagogy, and the social-emotional development of elementary-aged students
- Proficiency in relevant technology and software – Microsoft Suite, coding software, and creative design programs
- Ability to work effectively both as a team player and individual contributor
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with maximum precision and minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, non-verbal)
- Commitment to foster, promote, and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace
- Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities in a fast-paced work environment
Requirements:This job requires one to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as well as the ability to stand, sit, walk, and effectively use of extremities to reach, hold, touch, push, pull, lift, and carry. Incumbents must also effectively communicate (oral, written, non-verbal) with others. This job typically requires 30% sitting, 35% walking, and 35% standing and is performed under minimal temperature variations in a generally hazard-free environment. Depending on classroom assignment, this role may require one to relocate classrooms throughout the day and require ascending and descending stairs. Incumbents will occasionally be required to work extended hours, including after school, during evenings, and on weekends.
Dexter Southfield’s 36-acre campus is composed of several buildings, playing fields, and outdoor learning spaces, which are accessible via internal and external walkways, stairs, nature paths, hills, and uneven terrain. This position requires one to transfer between these areas in all weather conditions.
