Anticipated Part-Time Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Learning Specialist who is able to work individually and in small groups with students to provide direct instruction in decoding/encoding, fluency, reading comprehension, morphology, writing, math, and study skills. Additionally, the Learning Specialist will be able to assist students in transferring taught skills to content area material. The successful candidate should have training and experience working with students who have language-based learning differences, as well as experience teaching students with executive functioning vulnerabilities.

Position Details: 

  • Anticipated caseload may include students from grades K through 8
  • Anticipated caseload will likely start at 2-4 hours per week with the possibility of increasing later in the year

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters degree in Special Education and/or certification in Orton-Gillingham (or Orton-Gillingham based approach) is preferred. 
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching students with learning differences
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment for all students

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with learning differences that impact their learning
  • Communicate effectively with families and classroom teachers about student needs and progress
  • Write formal student progress reports and attend parent conferences twice a year
  • Administer academic assessments (e.g., WIAT-4, GORT-V, WRMT-III, etc.) to gain more information about students’ skills and use the information to help develop support plans
  • Interpret neuropsychological reports and support the implementation of recommendations within individual, small group, and classroom settings
  • Attend biweekly Skills Department meetings and weekly meetings with the Director of Skills
