Summary: The Academic Support Coordinator coordinates the design and implementation of individualized learning supports to help students thrive at Waring. This role works closely with students, families, and faculty to ensure students have the tools and guidance needed for academic success. 

Primary responsibilities:

Academic Skills Support Coordination

  • Serve as primary coordinator of academic support for students with documented learning needs or those who have requested or been referred for support.
  • Develop and oversee individualized Academic Support Plans for students with acute academic needs.
    • Identify appropriate academic and executive function supports 
    • Draft and update plans in collaboration with the faculty, families, and student
    • Monitor student progress through ongoing communication with classroom teachers and Tutors
  • Review Neuropsychological Evaluations, IEPs, and other documentation to create individual  Learning Profiles to help teachers support students in the classroom.
  • Observe students in the classroom and work with teachers to identify strategies to support learning.

Student Support

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring in study skills, writing support, and executive function.
  • Advise school leadership on relevant professional learning opportunities and make presentations related to student learning support.

Family and Faculty Liaison

  • Participate as a core member of the Student Support Team (“SST”), which includes SST chair, School Social Worker, School Nurse, Group Dean representative, and DEIJA Chair, including a weekly meeting, to develop holistic plans for student success.
  • Meet weekly with the Academic Dean to review student progress and share updates.
  • Facilitate teacher briefings on Learning Profiles and/or Academic Support Plans.
  • Provide regular updates to the Academic Dean and faculty on academic supports and progress.
  • Consult with the Director of Enrollment and Admissions about prospective students with learning needs.
  • Support in-house academic and ELL tutors with scheduling.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree with 3-5 years of experience
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate adolescent learners and to work well with colleagues
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, such as Google classroom, preferred
  • Participation in annual all-school events such as Program Night, Graduation, Convocation
  • Participation in Experiential Learning aspects of our program, including Camping Trip and Endterm, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage
  • Attendance at co-curricular aspects of our school program, e.g. All-School Meetings, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage
  • Participation in Faculty Meetings and Professional Days, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage
