Middle School Math Teacher Birches School 2025-2026

Birches School seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative middle school math teacher beginning in August 2025.

Summary: The middle school math teacher works to help students continue building a strong math foundation, master “the how and why,” help with independent work, and fill in gaps needed for advancement. They implement strategies for developing focus, time management, healthy work habits, and a growth mindset in an atmosphere that promotes enjoyment of math and knowing oneself as a mathematician. They teach techniques for building math skills, mastering problem solving and accurate computation. The MS math teacher helps track and customize assessments that pinpoint students’ needs, meeting them where they are and taking them where they need to go. In addition, this teacher is a core teacher on the middle school team, advising 8-10 MS students and supporting the MS program.

Responsibilities:

●  Plan and implement the Middle School Math Program for grades 6, 7, and 8 with a strong, forward-thinking vision for preparing students to be successful in high school-level math

●  Teach class lessons that are dynamic, creative, and actively engage middle school students

●  Select books, equipment, and instructional programs/assessments related to math

●  Present math lessons and curriculum in a way that demonstrates recognition and inclusivity of all students

●  Participate in curriculum development related to integrating Thematic Unit Topics (Science/Humanities) into math curriculum each year, where/when applicable

●  Communicate each student’s progress with the MS teaching team, identifying students’ needs related to math class and strategizing methods of support for each student

●  Communicate with Birches Community about math-related activities

●  Serve as a core member of the middle school teaching team, responsible for planning andleading special events, programming, and student support across the gradebands

●  Co-plan and run Middle School Advisory, which includes daily advisory meetings and direct support of 8-10 MS students, serving as their primary family contact (including conferences and parent communications)

●  Contribute to each student’s Progress Report several times per year (social-emotional/work habits for advisees and math progress for all students)

●  Lead MS field trips and student team-building activities

●  Maintain school math equipment inventory and manage all related materials

●  Attend routine staff meetings and cover regular lunch and recess duties
