Position Summary:

This position works cooperatively with staff, parents, and students to ensure that student medical needs are met on an acute and ongoing basis.  8 hours/week 3 p – 5 p Monday-Thursday

Responsibilities:

  • Assessment, triage and treatment of acute illness, injury and emergencies involving students while adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and the guidelines of care established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
  • Support of students with chronic conditions following an established plan of care
  • Management and administration of medications as directed by Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations
  • Communication with parents/guardians, faculty/staff and healthcare providers as needed to ensure the health and safety of Carroll students
  • Serve as an intermediary between the school, home, private physician, and health and social agencies regarding the health status of students and their needs
  • Assist with implementation of school policies to comply with established health regulations 
  • In the event that it is needed, work with heads of divisions, teachers and other support staff in providing appropriate physical classroom accommodations for students, such as special placement, special equipment, and/or assistive devices

Qualifications: 

  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Current CPR and AED certification.
  • Two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Massachusetts in a child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting preferred.
  • Prior school nurse experience strongly preferred.
  • Fluent and/or comfortable working with an electronic database system.
