Inly School is an independent PreK–8 Montessori-plus School located in Scituate, MA, 25 miles south of Boston. It has a student population of approximately 340 students, 76 employees, and serves 20 towns on the South Shore.

Inly School seeks a Physical Education Teacher to teach classes in Physical Education and coach sports teams in Inly Athletics in a multi-age environment (PreK – Grade 8) beginning October 1, 2024. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design comprehensive scope and sequence for Physical Education program at all levels and coordinate with other specialists to design integrated curriculum as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, age appropriate lessons which will build skills in Physical Education,
  • Prepare lesson plans for both indoor and outdoor classes, depending on weather conditions,
  • Work to ensure the safety of all players/students at all times,
  • Work with Business Manager and Facilities Manager to oversee and ensure field safety and maintenance,
  • Work with the Director of Student Life and Strategic Programs to support a full after school program, including competitive sports, for each season,
  • Work to maximize Inly’s visibility in competitive sports through scheduling and programming of outside games, 
  • Serve on Montessori Athletics Conference Committee, 
  • Serve as primary contact and first aid liaison to students at away games; work with School Nurse to ensure medicines are transported, etc.
  • Develop a sense of sportsmanship with students at all levels,
  • Chaperone students at competitive games, as necessary, 
  • Create and maintain a prepared environment that is well ordered, clean, inviting, encourages student exploration and growth, and facilitates each student’s growing concentration and independence
  • Observe and evaluate each child’s individual progress and use those observations to inform lesson plans that are developmentally and academically appropriate for each level
  • Invest in the whole child understanding that meeting the emotional needs of each student. This includes:
    • Offering warmth, security, stability and non-judgemental acceptance to each child 
    • Facilitating communication among children and helping each child learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings to adults
  • Observe in other environments throughout the school, engage in professional growth opportunities, and invest in pedagogical conversations with colleagues so that you can invest in and learn about the community beyond your classroom and level
  • Work with peers when appropriate in day-to-day activities, classroom management, transitions, recess, technology, experiential learning, and parent communication
  • Be available to assist with support duties as needed throughout the year

Strong Candidates Will Have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s Degree, preferred
  • Montessori Degree, preferred
  • Minimum three years teaching experience, preferred
  • Desire to collaborate and contribute to a progressive school environment
  • An understanding of Montessori philosophy and pedagogy, as well as an interest in current educational research and innovative practices (Montessori training available for qualified candidates)
  • A demonstrated ability to embrace multicultural perspectives with experience building an inclusive environment and a commitment to anti-bias teaching practices.
