Wood Working Specialist

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age and have at least one year of college experience  OR one year of work experience after high school 
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience working in a camp or school setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults
  • Ability to develop and implement activities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Available to attend a three-day training session June 18-June 20th
  • Available 8:30-4:30, Monday-Friday, June 24th-August 16th 
    • At least a 4-week commitment is preferred
  • Energetic and positive attitude
  • Likes fun!

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Woodworking Skills: Instruct campers in various woodworking techniques including measuring, cutting, sanding, drilling, and finishing wood projects.
  • Safety Instruction: Ensure campers understand and follow safety protocols and procedures while using woodworking tools and equipment.
  • Project Planning: Assist campers in planning and designing woodworking projects suitable for their skill level and interests.
  • Demonstrations: Provide demonstrations of woodworking techniques and methods to enhance campers’ understanding and skills.
  • Supervision: Supervise campers during woodworking activities to ensure proper use of tools and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Tool Maintenance: Maintain and organize woodworking tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and safe to use.
  • Project Assistance: Offer guidance and assistance to campers as they work on their woodworking projects, providing support and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Creative Problem Solving: Encourage campers to think creatively and problem-solve independently as they encounter challenges during their woodworking projects.
  • Encouragement and Support: Foster a positive and supportive environment for campers, praising their efforts and offering constructive feedback to help them improve.
  • Cleanup and Organization: Oversee cleanup of the woodworking area at the end of each session, ensuring tools are properly stored and the workspace is tidy.

Job Requirements:

Must be physically able to perform all Passport Summer Camp duties.  The physical activity of this position includes:

  • Walking
  • Lifting to 50 lbs
  • Standing and sitting on the floor
  • Tolerating various temperature ranges
