Position Summary

Brookwood seeks an outstanding math teacher who has a deep knowledge of adolescent child development, a problem-based, conceptual focus for teaching math in grades 5-8, exceptional written/verbal communication skills, and an infectious sense of fun.  Brookwood actively pursues candidates with a strong focus on multiculturalism, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The ideal candidate will have both strong mathematics teaching pedagogy and content knowledge.  Brookwood seeks a math teacher who will actively incorporate mathematical practices and have the ability to differentiate instruction for all students in the classroom. The candidate will put students’ needs at the center of decision-making, will be a self-reflective educator who models a growth mindset, and will be an inspiration to and collaborator with a high-performing faculty.  The position likely teaches three sections of 8th grade/Algebra 1 and one section of 7th grade math as well as serving as an Upper School Advisor. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education or Math
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience and proficiency with culturally responsive teaching practices and social/emotional learning

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Illustrative Math Curriculum 
  • Experience with frameworks including RULER and Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach math classes to multiple grade levels (7th and 8th)
  • Communicate regularly with other faculty, administration, and parents about the academic, social, and emotional health of students
  • Incorporate a variety of strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of children
  • Advise a small group of students, prioritizing their social, emotional and mental well-being
  • Assist with responsibilities outside of their subject (recess duty, leading student clubs, field trips, and co leading / leading an immersive week long program in May called Steep Week)
  • Write student recommendation letters for 8th graders applying to secondary schools
  • Ideally, coach one or two seasons of 6-8th grade athletics for an additional stipend 
  • Engage in professional development to advance school priorities including math, differentiation, outdoor education, and diversity, equity, and inclusion goals at Brookwood
