Upper School Art Teacher
South Shore Christian Academy (45 Broad Street, Weymouth, MA 02188)
Reports to
High School Lead Teacher / Director of Finance and Operations
South Shore Christian Academy is a Christian, Preschool – Grade 12, college-preparatory, richly diverse day school south of Boston, Massachusetts. We are on a mission to “glorify Jesus Christ by revealing truth, imparting knowledge, stimulating spiritual growth, and developing Christian character in young men and women through a college preparatory curriculum taught by Christian teachers,” so that students can be well-equipped to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” in our world.
Job Summary
The Upper School Art Teacher engages high school students in the meaningful study of the visual arts in support of the school’s mission.  This teacher, therefore, conducts students into ever-deepening skill and sophistication in the creation of art in various media, reflecting their identities as people created in the image of a creative God; in a journey of discovery about the history of art and the ways that that history intersects with theological and philosophical ideas and with other subject areas; and in a process of reflection, expression, and communication that the language of art enables.  Along the way, this teacher invites students to consider how appreciating and making art can inform and enrich their faith, shape their character, and fuel their calling to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” in every sphere.
Our preferred candidate will be an avid learner, an eager collaborator, and an effective communicator, skilled in developing a productive rapport with students and finding ways to help them succeed.  This person will embody, and actively seek to grow in, SSCA’s “Characteristics of Professional Excellence.”  Making art is an important part of his or her life.  This person will also have the professional confidence to establish curricular goals and develop courses of study.  This teacher will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the theater teacher on set design and decoration, and to participate over the coming years in our ongoing curriculum review process, helping to shape and improve our school.
