Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Upper Division in support of Upper Division students, faculty, academic staff, and families 
  • Evaluate annually the Upper Division faculty and staff guided by The Park School’s essential expectations for employees
  • Lead the hiring process for all Upper Division faculty and academic staff positions
  • Serve as a member of the Program Leadership Team composed of the Assistant Head of School for Curriculum & Instruction, the Lower Division Head, the Director of DEIB, and the Head of School
  • Foster and maintain a positive Upper Division faculty culture focused on student experience and student success
  • Engage proactively with Upper Division families regarding Upper Division curriculum and instruction 
  • Engage interactively with Upper Division families regarding student experience in the context of student challenge and success
  • Support the Assistant Upper Division Head in fostering and maintaining a positive and healthy Upper Division student culture and community
  • Support the Assistant Upper Division Head in the execution of the Upper Division’s restorative practice and discipline processes
  • Support the Assistant Upper Division Head in the execution of the Upper Division’s service learning curriculum and programming
  • In partnership with the Assistant Head of School for Curriculum & Instruction, implement and maintain Upper Division curricular and instructional improvements, positioning Park as the very best PreK through Grade 8 school for our students
  • In partnership with the Assistant Head of School for Curriculum & Instruction, attend to the Upper Division’s vertical and horizontal curricular alignment, guiding faculty in regular and comprehensive attention to and maintenance of Park’s PreK-8 curriculum maps (Atlas Rubicon)
  • In partnership with the Assistant Head of School for Curriculum & Instruction, support the Upper Division faculty growth through annual goal setting, peer coaching, and professional development (Folio)
  • In partnership with the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion& Belonging and Assistant Head for Curriculum & Instruction, ensure that Park’s Upper Division curriculum and instructional practices demonstrate a purposeful and effective culturally responsive approach
  • In partnership with the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, ensure that Park’s hiring and retention practices foster a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • In partnership with the Upper Division Assistant Head, Director of Student Support, Grade Level Coordinators, and School Counselors, support and maintain the Upper Division SEL curriculum and programming
  • In partnership with the Director of Academic Support and Assistant Head of School for Curriculum & Instruction, work to ensure that a range of diverse learners is served by Upper Division curriculum, instruction, and faculty
  • In partnership with the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications and Assistant Head of School for Curriculum & Instruction, clearly define and communicate the academic and instructional vision of the Upper Division to internal and external constituency groups
  • In partnership with the Director of Enrollment Management, support the work of the Admission Office as it pertains to recruitment, assessment, and enrollment of prospective Upper Division students and families
  • In partnership with the Director of Enrollment Management, work to retain Upper Division students and families through interactive engagement
  • In partnership with the Assistant Head of School for Finance & Operations and other operational leaders manage the Upper Division budget, essential services, and Upper Division facilities
  • In partnership with the Registrar, build the school schedule and student schedules  annually, and facilitate the creation of ad hoc schedules as needed
  • Lead Upper Division faculty meetings 
  • Supervise the Upper Division faculty
  • Supervise the Upper Division Assistant Head, Assistant to the Upper Division Head, Director of Student Support (in partnership with the Lower Division Head), and School Counselors
  • Supervise the Upper Division Department Chairs, Upper Division Grade Level Coordinators, and PreK-Grade 8 Department Chairs (in partnership with the Lower Division Head)
  • Serve on the senior admin team, program leadership team, operational leadership team, employee care team, and the School’s emergency response team
  • Lead specific initiatives as determined by the Head of School
  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations

 

Qualifications
  • An advanced degree and a minimum of five years of administrative experience leading programmatic change
  • Experience as a classroom teacher required
  • Experience as a division head preferred
  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge and skill regarding student-centered curriculum and pedagogy, applied learning, social-emotional learning, project-based instruction, and competency-based teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated dedication to multiculturalism, equity, and inclusion in school settings with a record of accomplishment 
  • Strategic thinking skills with a record of accomplishment in the implementation of change initiatives within progressive, student-centered schools
  • Community building skill set and a capacity and interest in working with a broad spectrum of professional learners
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, allowing one to work effectively with colleagues, parents, and students
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking 
  • A desire to work with colleagues, students, and parents in a PreK-8 school environment
  • Ability to work collegially with multiple constituencies
  • Strong organizational skills
  • A good sense of humor
  • A growth mindset

 

Requirements 

 

Working Hours: 

  • Requires occasional evening and weekend work and requires active engagement in the life of the School community

Travel Requirements: 

  • Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minutes periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise, and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas),  including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
