Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), a co-ed elite ski academy located in East Burke, VT, with approximately 70 students, is seeking a full-time Science and Math Teacher.

Burke Mountain Academy uniquely designs its college preparatory academic program to support the development of world-class skiers. The program values critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and strong communication skills across all subjects to foster lifelong learning in students. Instead of providing grades, faculty members give students individualized written feedback narratives focused on personal growth.

Burke Mountain Academy is seeking a passionate, energetic professional for the 2024-25 school year to teach a range of science and math courses at the high school level and engage in boarding school life. Courses could include Physics, Chemistry, Data Science or Computer Programming, Life Sciences, Qualitative Reasoning, or others along the STEM curriculum. Class sizes range from 6-12 students, and teaching at BMA provides the opportunity for curriculum development and design to best meet the needs of our students. Successful teachers at the school embrace flexibility and creativity in delivering academic content to athletes who travel frequently for ski racing and training opportunities.

Responsibilities Responsibilities

  • Teach three or four preps for the 2022-23 school year.
  • Provide narrative-based feedback for students.
  • Participate in weekly faculty meetings and collaborate with a small faculty team to create project-based and experiential learning curriculum across all courses.
  • Advise approximately four students.
  • Perform the requisite number of weekday and weekend duties required of all faculty and staff as part of a residential school community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in math or related field and at least one year of high school math teaching experience.
