School Nurse (Part-time)

Job Title: School Nurse (part-time – 20 hours) Reports to: Head of School Start Date: Immediate Status: Salary: $45,000
Mother Caroline Academy seeks a part time School Nurse to assist with student health and wellness throughout the school year.
The School Nurse is required to have either an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a Certificate in Practical Nursing with commensurate experience. Applicants must also be licensed as a registered nurse RN or a licensed LPN in the state of Massachusetts. Certification through either the state Department of Education or Department of Health may be necessary. In addition to any and all school situations, processes, and circumstances requiring medical attention, the school nurse will oversee all student health and illness related protocols, procedures and creation of school protocol guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.
Responsibilities for School Nurse
- Treat students and staff as needed and maintain medical records
- Develop care plans for students with ongoing conditions
- Perform hearing, vision and other health screenings
- Consult with teachers, families, school administrators and other school staff regarding student care
- Administer medication or an AED Device as needed
- Monitor and collect student immunization records to ensure complete medical history information for all students
- Educate students and staff on health procedures
- Conduct educational sessions on self-esteem, weight stigma, eating disorders and any other health topics affecting middle school aged students
Qualifications for School Nurse
- Valid Massachusetts Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse (RN) license (preferred)
- Experience in pediatric and adolescent health including mental health
- Knowledge of school regulations and policies
- Ability to work independently and with others
- Ability to communicate well with others
- Ability to assess situations and act quickly
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Knowledge of MA state health and US federal health regulations
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Platform
Hours:
20 hours/week. Wednesdays are required.
Vacations and school closures generally follow Boston Public Schools.
