Bancroft is located in Worcester, Massachusetts — a thriving city with a rich history and a bright future in which the school is deeply invested. Founded in 1900, Bancroft’s 30-acre campus is in a residential neighborhood just north of downtown. Our 400 students from 63 cities and towns around central Massachusetts represent a variety of different backgrounds that contribute to a unique and diverse learning environment.

In January of 2020, the school unveiled a 5-year strategic plan, BluePrint125 — a product of extensive internal investigation and collaborative discussion among the School’s many constituents. In recent years, the School has made significant investments in campus upgrades to improve energy efficiency, air quality, and public safety. Other major campus enhancements have included the creation of flexible, multi-functional learning spaces in the areas of performing arts, athletics, and technology.

Position Summary
Bancroft is seeking a full-time long-term Substitute School Counselor from April, 2024 through the end of the school year. The School Counselor serves students in grades PreK through 8 and collaborates with faculty, school families, and outside providers to support an emotionally safe and healthy experience for each student. The School Counselor works together with other school personnel to ensure that the social-emotional goals of the school are implemented across all areas of school life. The School Counselor serves a key role in creating an atmosphere of emotional wellness for students and needs to have strong collaboration skills, a high degree of discretion and confidentiality, an expert understanding of progressive child development, and extensive knowledge of resources and services for students and families.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Provide counseling support for students, as needed. Provide direct support to students and advocate for their social-emotional needs.
• Provide a safe environment for students to voice concerns and seek counseling while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Serve as a resource for faculty in their roles as advisors and teachers.
• Meet with families and participate in conferences, as needed.
• Provide crisis management support.
• Ability to support the implementation of restorative justice practices in a school setting.
• Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
• Champion moral and ethical citizenship in our racially and ethnically diverse community.
• Provide parental support and guidance related to child development as needed
• Communicate proactively and effectively with parents, administrators, and teachers as necessary with regards to social, emotional, and mental health awareness and needs.
• Collaborate with the adult community regarding academic and social emotional health of students.
• Collaborate with mental health providers on the needs of individual students.

Qualifications:

• M. Ed., M.A., , Ph.D., or Psy.D. in social work or clinical mental health counseling, or school adjustment counseling.
• Commitment to the creation and sustainability of an inclusive, equitable learning environment for all students and faculty, regardless of race, color, religion, creed, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity and expression.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and parents.
• Strong clinical skills with PreK-8th-grade students.
• Diversity and Inclusion experience and training preferred.
• High levels of comfort and experience with communication platforms and technologies.

Essential Attitudes; Aptitudes:

• A collaborative spirit,
• A willingness to participate and partner with colleagues on various initiatives, and
• An understanding of and love for lower and middle school students.
